Baby of Sushmina, a 2-day-old newborn girl from Kollam, Kerala, India, required urgent treatment for a congenital heart condition and underwent CoA (Coarctation of the Aorta) Repair, with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) support depending on the surgical requirement.

In 2016, the newborn received specialised cardiac treatment at AIMS, Cochin. CoA repair is performed to correct a narrowing of the aorta, the major artery that carries blood from the heart to the rest of the body, helping restore healthier blood flow and reduce strain on the heart.

With timely medical intervention and fundraising support, the baby was able to access critical cardiac care within just two days of birth. Her journey highlights how financial assistance and access to specialised neonatal heart surgery can give newborns with serious congenital heart conditions a stronger chance at a healthier future.
